Powerhead: Inspired by modern inboard technology, the powerhead of the OXE Diesel is mounted horizontally and marinized with a closed-circuit coolant system.

Yanmar Conducts World's First 70 MPa High-Pressure Ship Refueling with Hydrogen

 

 

Yanmar Power Technology (YPT), a Group company of Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd., has conducted the world's first 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen refueling of a ship using a demonstration test boat equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell system. The test boat cruised on a route around the island of the Osaka-Kansai World Exposition 2025 and famous tourist spots on the city's coast.

The 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen refueling was carried out in cooperation with Toyota Tsusho Corporation, using a specially licensed high-pressure facility and a newly developed prototype long hydrogen refueling hose. The 70MPa high-pressure refueling resulted in more than three times longer cruising time compared to the previous refueling process. The results will be utilized for the market deployment of hydrogen fuel cell systems as well as the study of hydrogen refueling infrastructure for ships.

 

 

YPT is developing a 300kW-class maritime fuel cell system incorporating fuel cell modules supplied by Toyota Motor Corporation, addressing the potential customer demands such as ones relating to the Carbon-Neutral Port concept of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Yanmar aims to obtain a type approval from classification societies so that the system can be installed in various types of ships with global customers towards a planned launch to market in 2023.

 

Electric boat: The world's first Supercharger now operational in Florø

A historic milestone for electric boating in Florø, Norway. The
first supercharger in the world were opened on the west coast of Norway at the
marina in Florø. The supercharger from PLUG is the first in a series planned along
the Norwegian coast.

And it’s now up and running, the opportunity for all parties involved to conduct the
official opening this day with 3 boats powered by Evoy in the marina.
A strong collaboration between several partners.Sogn og Fjordane Energi (SFE),
BKK, Evoy, Kinn municipality, and Florø Hamn has enabled this to become a
reality.The supercharger on the dock enables the charge of electric boats and cars
at lightning speed with more than 150kW power!

Facilitates a sustainable and zero-emission footprint
"We intend to make our region climate-friendly, and electrification is an essential
part of this project. Fossil systems can now be replaced with renewable energy,
thereby contributing to the zero-emission society," says SFE.



Lightning-fast charger
The difference between a usual charger and a supercharger is differentiating the
time of charge. (Allowed by DC plugs installed on boats).
Where regular charging from a plug at home for example can take hours, a
supercharger on the other hand is “Lightening” fast. Fast chargers are offering
between 40 to 150 kW, while the Florø charger has 150 kW power and can be used by anyone with an electric car or electric boat via a connected APP called

“Bilkraft”.

Building charging networks for electric boats
The charger is equally owned between SFE and BKK. BKK intend to be the largest actor in electrification in Norway and focuses on both shore power for ships and maritime charging through PLUG, its subsidiary company. “The Florø supercharger is already becoming an important part of the charging journey along the coast.
Even though there are not yet many electric boats at sea, it is important to build the chargers infrastructure to facilitate the transition," says Maria Bos, General
Manager of Plug.

Electric boat revolution in Florø
Evoy has developed powerful electric propulsion systems for boats (150HP
outboard and 450HP inboard), leading the way in the electric boat revolution. Florø would not have received the world's first electric boat light charger without Evoy and entrepreneur Leif Stavøstrand's fiery involvement. I think it's difficult to formulate the real importance of this charger, it is a beacon that shows the way. It will create rings in the water around the world and the ring will start from Florø. A fast track for the E.boating industry
In addition to allowing electric cars and recreational boats to charge, the
superchargers are also essentials for workboats that switch to electric boats. In the Florø area, fish farming companies have invested in electric boats, Like EVOY

Yamaha Motor to Begin Pre-orders of Next-Generation Boat Maneuvering System HARMO in Europe 

- More comfortable, smart package boat with electric motor quietness - 

IWATA, September 15, 2021 - Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. announced today that European pre-orders for spring 2022 have begun for HARMO - featuring a new boat-maneuvering technique integrated with an electric propulsion unit and steering control system.

This latest arrival will be available for viewing at the Genoa International Boat Show (September 16- 21) to be held in Genoa, Italy. HARMO is a "next-generation boat-maneuvering system platform" consisting of a propulsion unit powered by an electric motor, a remote control box, and a joystick that enables more intuitive operation.

Developed with the aim of providing a smart package boat that brings passengers more comfort due to the quietness unique to that of electric motors. With a focus on Europe, where environmental awareness is ever increasing, HARMO has been exhibited as a prototype in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2016, and Dusseldorf, Germany in January 2020, where it attracted a lot of attention.

A great deal of insight was also gained through initiatives such as the promotion of demonstration operations on the Otaru Canal Cruise in Otaru City, Hokkaido which started from August 2020. With the aim of bringing greater benefit to people’s lives, and to society as a whole, the company has further expanded the possibilities of mobility through electrification of various product groups including electric motorcycles, electrically power assisted bicycles, electric wheelchairs, drones, electric golf cars and small low-speed vehicles (land cars). 

HARMO Features

• Motor drive adopts a rim drive method*, realizing highly efficient electric propulsion. In particular, as strong thrust (propulsion force) can be generated at low speeds, HARMO enhances intuitive operation, with significantly lower vibration and noise, allowing a more comfortable ride
• The steering mechanism with its large rudder angle enables on-the-spot turning, providing a greater sense of enjoyment and unity with the boat.
• One can easily maneuver the boat with simple operation of the joystick.

UKCA product marking will replace CE product marking

  

 

UK government has given firms an extra year to apply

 post-Brexit product safety standards

 

After “Extensive and ongoing engagement” with the industry the government has been acting on the much-argued switch from CE (European Conformity) marking to UKCA marking (United Kingdom Conformity Assessed). This has resulted that the firms get an extra year to apply and assess their UK sold products and they are allowed to use the CE marking till 1 January 2023 (before 1 January 2022). 

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) welcomed the move saying it would protect supply chain and “make a huge difference to consumers” on the availability of products covered by the CE/UKCA marking. UK’s post-pandemic economic recovery is already showing signs of being held back by a cocktail of supply chain issues from lorry driver shortfalls to global chip shortages.

The new product safety marking rules will affect businesses supplying most products on the market in England, Scotland and Wales the BCC indicated. Companies have been able to use the new UKCA markings since January 1, 2021, which the government says will allow it to have control over goods regulations “maintaining the high product safety standards expected in the UK”.

But businesses have complained about the extra burden this will give to be applying to two regulations and standards and the departure of decades of experience vs a new system of conformity compliance. Because the UKCA product marking is not recognized in the EU and the CE product marking is not recognized in the UK. Additionally, the end consumer will have to pay the bill with buying the product as an end-consumer...
